Laurent M. Abecassis is an Emmy® Award-winning visual effects supervisor and CG character specialist. He is known for his work as a VFX sequence supervisor on the acclaimed TV series Lost, contributing to its breathtaking plane crash sequences. Having worked in the computer graphic field for more than 15 years, Abecassis has tackled many aspects of CG production and software development. He led CG character research efforts at Di-O-Matic, supervised visual effects, and designed production pipelines. For more than a decade, Abecassis has pushed Autodesk software to the extreme in countless productions in a wide range of media—games, television, visual effects, CG feature films, commercials, and innovative interactive kiosks. For the past ten years, Abecassis has shared his expertise by providing customized training to companies such as Kodak and Ubisoft as well as the universities around the globe. Abecassis has been designing and actively developing CG character animations plug-ins for 3ds Max, Maya and Softimage since 2000. His technologies are in use today at leading production houses such as Activision, Blur Studio, Sega, and Rockstar. Well-known CG characters Mickey Mouse, Sonic the Hedgehog, Spider-man, Batman, Superman, Crash Bandicoot, and Spongebob Squarepants rely on Autodesk tools as well as technologies designed by Abecassis to entertain audiences worldwide.

Marc Beaudoin is a Motionbuilder and Maya specialist working as an Artistic Technical Director at Behaviour Interactive. Prior to this, Marc worked for Autodesk (Kaydara-Alias) for several years where he has provided technical director consultancy services for a wide variety of studios around the world including Sony, ID Software, Ubisoft and EA. In addition, Marc has been teaching professionally 3D computer graphics for more than 15 years at numerous schools such as the Universite du Quebec a Montreal, NAD center and several other colleges.

Apple Service Diagnostic ASD 3S135

Apple Service Diagnostics (ASD) is distributed to Apple Service Providers. The Apple Service Diagnostics application is designed to run both EFI and Mac OS X tests from an external USB hard drive. Apple Service Diagnostics (EFI) runs low-level tests of the hardware directly and does not require Mac OS X, while Apple Service Diagnostics (OS) uses Mac OS X to run tests.

Booting and using the Apple Service Diagnostics application.
! Before using Apple Service Diagnostics, disconnect any Ethernet network, USB, and audio cables!
With the USB hard drive containing ASD OS 3S135 and ASD EFI 3S135 plugged into a USB port, restart the computer and hold down the option key as the computer boots up into the Boot Picker. To run ASD (EFI) select the "ASD EFI 3S135" drive icon and press return or select it with a mouse click. To run ASD (OS) select the "ASD OS 3S135" drive icon and press return or select it with a mouse click. ASD (EFI) will load in 20-30 seconds; ASD (OS) will load in 1-2 minutes. After running ASD (OS) or ASD (EFI), press the Shut Down button to shut down the computer. Removed the USB drive.

Changes to ASD 3S135
EFI user interface has been changed to better match the OS user interface. Those changes are listed in ASD User Guide.
Added support for new Macintosh releases listed below.

Digital Tutors - Creating a Handgun in ZBrush 4

In this course we will use a variety of hard-surface tools to build a realistic handgun in ZBrush 4.

ZBrush 4 has a number of tools that make building hard surface models incredibly easy. In this series of lessons we will use those hard surface tools to sculpt a realistic handgun. We will start by using Shadowbox to block out a base for the gun. We will use the powerful clipping brushes to shape the model before creating our own new topology for the mesh, complete with subdivision levels and projected detail. We will use the polish brushes to add bevels and create smooth transitions with hard edges to refine the mesh. We will look at several ways of building accessories, including mesh extraction for the back strap, the topology tools for the grips, and Shadowbox for many of the smaller but complex pieces. We will finish up our project by adding materials to the different pieces and use Spotlight to paint a texture for the grips. In the end, you will not only have created a realistic handgun from scratch using only ZBrush, but you will then have the knowledge you need to create your own guns and weapons in ZBrush.
