Creative Development: Creating Hologram Effects for Video in Maya and After Effects

In this tutorial we will explore how to create interaction between our live action footage and CG environment. This course goes through the entire process in real time, of creating a shot in which the live action footage interacts with our CG scene. We start out by matchmoving our footage in PFTrack and take a look at how we can easily solve multiple matchmoves. Then, we combine them in Maya to be part of a visual effects sequence.

We then take the solved camera into Maya where proxy geometry is created for the live action hand and prop turntable. Many other things are covered such as animating, lighting using final gather and HDRI, UV mapping, displacement mapping, and rendering out many render passes. We then jump over into After Effects where we will be compositing 17 different render passes to create the final result in a linear workflow.

Topology Tools in ZBrush

In this series of tutorials, we will discuss the various topology functions in ZBrush and how they can be used in your projects. The topology, or edge flow, of our polygon meshes is important as we create our projects in ZBrush. Good topology can mean fewer overall polygons are needed to reflect the detail we want. More...

Good edge flow is also important when creating final meshes that require animation. ZBrush provides a number of great tools that allow artists to customize the topology of their meshes- tools like the Topology Brush and QRemesher. ZBrush's topology tools can also be used to selective replace local areas with new topology and to create entirely new meshes for things like masks, hoods, capes, or other accessories. This course goes over the different Topology creation options in ZBrush and talks about some of the advantages and disadvantages of each. In the end you'll be able to decide which methods you like the best when modifying the topology of your own ZBrush projects.

Creative Development: Creating a Fantasy Dragon in ZBrush

In this tutorial we will cover the creation of a dragon using reason and common sense. Through these lessons we will endeavor to create a dragon using the same kind of thinking and logic that I apply to my prehistoric creature modeling. We will use a variety of methods to achieve this along with a number of new features in the latest release of ZBrush 4 R 4. We will cover Qremesher as well as retopology and the new mesh insert brush feature.

The Browser Team
In this chapter we’ll focus on HTML and CSS: what each one does, and how they work together to position content in the browser.
Building the Header Area
In this chapter we’ll begin creating an example web page by working on the header. We’ll plan the layout, build the header box, and position content with HTML and CSS.
Adding the Navigation Menu
The next item to build on the page is the navigation menu that will go below the header image. In this chapter we’ll set up the menu box, add links, and format the menu to make it look nice.
Creating the Middle Column
The design for this web page contains three columns: the navigation menu and two columns of content. Now that the web page has the header and menu area, in this chapter we will move on to add the first content column (the middle column on the page) and drop the text content into this new column.
Creating the Right Column
In this chapter we’ll add the final (right) column, which will contain both text and images, to the web page.
Positioning Using a Float
When working with CSS positioning, it is important to understand the float property, which allows content to move easily into a column structure. In this chapter you’ll learn how to apply and finish a float.
Adding Background Colors and Images
In order to make the web page match the original graphic design, we need to add background colors and images. In this chapter you’ll see how to do this using a footer, the clear property, nested divs, and negative CSS property values.
Adding the Final Touches
In this chapter we’ll apply a few finishing touches to our web page, modifying some rules for text and the background color, applying some new rules, and adding interactivity.
The lessons are wrapped in a feature-rich interface that lets you jump to any topic and bookmark individual sections for later review. Full-Screen mode provides a hi-def, immersive experience, and Watch-and-Work mode shrinks the video into a small window so you can play the videos alongside your application. Also included are exercise files that give you an easy way to try out the techniques you learn.
